CAS-ual Fridays #71 - Fall and Fun

T.G.I.F, my crafty friends! Great Impressions Stamps is sponsoring this week's challenge over at...

and I've got a card to share...first a couple of sneak peeks!

Glossy Accents lady bug...

Copic colored (see below for the colors I used) with a touch of glitter...

This is such a sweet image. I love that you could use portions of this image - just the flowers - or take out the bitty bug...or paper piece the pots or even the flowers. You could even change the season by changing the colors. 

The Great Impressions Stamps I used:

Cheery Lynn doily die (not sure which one...but I LOVE this one!) 

The paper...I think it's die cut from a Simple Stories 6x6 paper...I'll have to double check that.

Great Impressions - Halloween Special

Good morning! Still playing with a few of my Great Impressions' Halloween stamps...and a new sketch:

Works perfectly for my *Halloween center step card! 

(After giving it some thought, this could be a great birthday card for someone with a sense of humor!)

Just For You (C370) is the sentiment. I inked only the portion I needed.
Rose Intertwined Hearts (G450) Do you see it? I inked up only a bit of it and stamped along the edges of my 'tombstone!'

Spooky Tree (G432) is heat embossed in black. Love the shine and texture. Wanted to make sure the tree stood out after I sponged on the colors for the background.

Add a Stampin' Up! embossing folder and Perfect Pearls powder...Love how it shows up on the black cardstock. Have you played with Perfect Pearls?

And a few Distress Inks (Dusty Concord, Salty Ocean (it's a limited edition color), Mustard Seed) and you've got yourself a Halloween card!

Don't you just love Release Week? I know I do! I've got another suh-weet stamp for you and if you like to color...this was made for you! This is Garden Bear (G467):

Garden Bear is all colored up with Copics (see below) and then die cut using the "Out of the Box" technique and a Spellbinders oval.

And, of course, there's a matching sentiment! TLC (B226)

This week I decided to participate in a sketch challenge from Sassy Cheryl. I turned this design on its side. I think I'll use this one a few more times...

Did you see that tag with the chevrons...behind the bear? Don't let it fool you...it's a 4th generation tag! I knew what I wanted. It just took a little longer getting there than I thought.

First it was a white tag with Broken China Distress Ink.
*decided I didn't like the contrast of the white tag*

Then it was Picket Fence Distress Stain through the Studio Calico mask.
*they didn't even look like chevrons, just splotches*

Then I flipped the mask over and tried using the ink on the mask.
*nope. almost the same results as above*

Finally, I decided to use the white Mister Huey spray...and like magic the chevrons appeared!

One day I will be weeks ahead of schedule and I will do a bloopers post and show you how some of my ideas started out...ya know...before they were lovely! lol

A little coolness to the air, a tinge of yellow in the trees...Fall is just around the corner!

My most favorite season is coming and with it the holidays!

Halloween is one of those holidays that crafters seem to love or not...with very little in-between. I'm one of those that loves Halloween. It's a holiday full of color, glitter and fun! I mean, c'mon...you get to dress up and eat chocolate...caramel apples, cider, pumpkin donuts...have I mentioned I'm a bit of a foodie? *grin* If you've got a favorite Fall recipe, I'd love to hear about it!

Speaking of recipes, I have one for you featuring Great Impressions Stamps'

Ghoulish (F501)

and Distressed Background (K94)!

A few layers, scraps of patterned papers and fiber, an embossing folder, Distress Inks...

and Stains and Stickles...

and a Tim Holtz Sizzix die...an oldie, but goodie!

Okay, here we go...stamp Ghoulish with Staz-On on the front of the vellum. Use Distress Stain in Picket Fence on the back...don't worry about staying in the lines. It's okay to get messy! Once dry, use Spica pens to add a little color and glitter to the ghosts eyes on the front side. Carefully tear along the edges of the vellum

I embossed the orange panel with an embossing folder, but if I had Spider Web (G379), I would have heat embossed it to make the background instead! Use Distressed Background to give the background more character.

The rosette was made using scrap paper and the Tim Holtz Mini Rosettes die. Now you can get out those Distress Inks and go to town making each layer look a little more vintage and add Stickles where ever you need some sparkle!

Great Impressions Stamps September Challenge - Sentiments

Happy Sunday!

It's time for another challenge on the Great Impressions Stamps Blog! September's Challenge is SENTIMENTS - with or without an image...your choice!

You know how much I love using butterflies...I figured I had time for one more butterfly project before the fall and winter ideas take over. For this project I used the Elegant Butterfly and Said the Butterfly stamps on a 4x4 coaster. IRL there is some awesome shimmer on this piece!

Have you ever used the Batik technique? Say that 5 times fast! lol It makes wonderful backgrounds and allows you to layer images using a negative-type effect.

- Stamp using Versamark Watermark, cover with clear embossing powder and then heat.

- Ink, spray, paint the background.

- Using a baby wipe or damp paper towel, clean off the embossed area(s).

- Place a piece of cardstock or even printer paper over the embossed image.

- Using a hot craft iron, press the iron over the embossed area(s) for a few seconds. Lift off the cardstock and check your image. Is it still shiny?

     - If it is, repeat the ironing, using a clean area on the card stock until the clear embossing is gone.

     - If it is not, start on the next layer!

I stamped my sentiment with Versamark Watermark and used black embossing powder. Do you see the shadow words? I dropped the stamp the first time and, of course, not all the words were clear. I used an embossing bag over the first stamp in the hopes that it would act as an eraser. It didn't work so well, but I like the effect - happy accident!
