Globecraft & Piccolo - Halloween Pumpkins Altered Frame

Today I have a fun Halloween altered frame project. Need a bit of fall decor? This cute frame comes together in less than an hour...including dry time!

To make this frame, you'll need a few items from the G&P store:

3D Gels: Burnt Umber, Mars Black, Orange, Satin Gold

Embossing Enamel Powder: Mossy Glen

Enamel Powder Adhesive Fluid

Glastique, Gloss

Lil Carved Pumpkins Accents A117

Haunted House Accents A110

Steampunk Airship Accents A100

Tim Holtz Distress Ink: Mustard Seed

Other supplies:

misc. frame (this would be so cool in a Bubble Frame, too! Tune in next week - I actually use one!)

scrap of patterned paper

scrap of fuzzy fibers

Your first step: color the Accent pieces with the 3D gels. *Let dry.

*To add texture to the 'enameled' pieces: let dry until the pieces are tacky. Using a scrap piece of paper, gently dab the semi-wet surface, pulling off small amounts of the gel. Repeat until you like the texture. Let dry.

Using your finger (or a paintbrush) apply the Satin Gold 3D Gel to the raised parts of the frame. LOVE this subtle gilded look!

These carved pumpkins have hilarious faces! They would be even funnier with googley eyes!

When the frame and all of the pieces are dry, lay the house on the scrap piece, trace under the house. Ink up the area and emboss with Mossy Glen. 

Using a foam blender, add the moon using Mustard Seed. Attach all of the Accents and fiber using the Glastique.

That's it!

Welcome to the weekend! Today's project is a cute altered frame using the fun Cock A Doodle Doo Accent!

Here's what you'll need from the G&P shop:

Enamel Powder Aged White

Enamel Powder Ruby Red Slippers

Enamel Powder Brownstone

Enamel Powder Micro Black

Enamel Powder Adhesive Fluid

Glastique Gloss

3D Enamel Gel Titanium White

Cock A Doodle Doo Accent (LA113)

Medium Flourishes Accents (A139)

Tiny Flourishes Accents (A138)

Tiny Hearts Flowers Stars Flourishes Accents (A144)

small frame (thrift stores/secondhand shops are great places to find frames!)

Tim Holtz Distress Inks: Fired Brick, Orange Marmalade, Mustard Seed, Vintage Photo, Black Soot

Begin by squeezing a small puddle of the Adhesive Fluid. Dip your paintbrush and paint the tail feathers (don't forget to leave space for the other color!) Sprinkle on the Micro Black. Heat and let cool. Repeat using the Ruby Red Slippers for the tail feathers, the comb and wattles.

When cool, use a small sponge or cotton swab to add the red, orange and yellow inks to the rooster.

The fence has 2 layers of embossing enamel. The first layer is Brownstone. Apply it randomly, leaving small open spaces. Heat and let cool. Add the Aged White layer to fill. Use Vintage Photo to ink up the edges of the fence.

Adhere the rooster/fence and other Accents using the Glastique. Coat the small flourishes and flowers using the 3D Gel in Titanium White. Let dry.

Globecraft & Piccolo - Altered Frame & Embossed Accents

This project has been sitting on the back burner for a few weeks now, but until recently it didn't really come together. At first I couldn't decide which Embossing Enamels to use, then it was deciding which Accents to use (there are so many choices!) - there was always something not quite right...have you ever had that much trouble getting a project to work?

Today the stars aligned and I love this mini frame!

I wanted something vintage-ish, clean not grungy. Worn and well loved was what I had in mind...

Globecraft & Piccolo:

Enamel Powder Adhesive Fluid

Embossing Enamel Real Rust

Butterfly & Flowers Accents (A153) (or you could use Tiny Hearts, Flowers, Stars & Flourishes A144 or any other set with a small heart)

The How To:

This project is pretty straightforward. Begin by dabbing on some Embossing Powder Adhesive Fluid and then emboss the frame with the Gilded Rose Gold. Don't be too precise. You want to leave areas unembossed. Tip: once the metal frame begins to get hot, you can dip the frame into a pile of the embossing powder without the adhesive.

I didn't have any more tiny hearts, so I used a small flower accent and snipped 2 petals into the shape of a heart. The book board cuts cleanly with scissors.

Using the adhesive fluid and embossing enamels, emboss, the heart, the lock and the key 2-3 times. Tip: to get the texture on the lock - melt 2 layers, while the surface of the lock is still hot, dip the face of the accent into the embossing powder. Heat only just enough to make the powder stick.

Punch out a heart from the scrap paper. Print your sentiment and then trim out the words. (I used a free font: Jane Austen for a little old world writing.) Distress all the edges using Vintage Photo Distress Ink.

Adhere the papers and accents using the Glastique. Use a small brush for the word strips.

 I wanted the frame to have a kind of shadow box effect, so I layered foam strips. (When I was putting the frame together, I had forgotten to account for the thickness of the glass, so I ended up only using 2 strips of foam.) 

String up the key and place one string between the foam strips and the other string over the top. Secure both strings on the back of the white cardstock.

Put the frame back together. That's it!
