Sentimental Sundays #188: Make It New

Wow. The last month has been a whirlwind of holidays! It felt like the last stretch of a really long race. As busy as it was, I feel so fortunate to have been able to spend so much time with my family!

Looking forward to getting back to creating, blogging and sharing.

Today is the first challenge of the year for Sentimental Sundays! I was able to choose the theme and wouldn't you know it...I chose an upcycle theme!

I know I've mentioned how much I LOVE A Day for Daisies designs...but I can't seem to stop telling you how wonderful they are! The art is endearing, feminine, lovely to color, and beautifully drawn.
(HERE's a card I made using this image...you can see a couple more of my ADFD projects HERE.)

Sigh.

So, of course, I have another gorgeous image and project to share.

This is Water World.

We live near the beach and my little one and I enjoy collecting bits of sea glass and seashells. I thought she needed a pretty way to display her treasures...do you?

First, you need these items...

a canning jar
lace
ribbon
a bit of jute
a battery operated tea light
seashells
a scrap of vellum
printable acetate

Copics

This project is so easy. The choosing my colors and coloring took longer than putting this together.

True story.

Print your image on the acetate (ask for printable transparency sheets at your local office supply store. make sure to get ones for your printer - laser, inkjet, etc.) Then color her up! Light colors do not show up very well and darker colors will show up lighter than you think. So, use colors darker than what you would normally and test them before coloring your image.

The colors will streak.  Let me say that again.  The colors will streak.

When coloring on plastic the colors don't blend. I kept my coloring & colors simple. If was going to really glam this up, I would add glitter to the back side of the image...hmmm...still might.

Anyway, after you are finished coloring, cut a scrap of vellum just a bit larger than the image. I cut both pieces to fit inside the jar with enough to bend the image. Start out with a longer piece than you think you need and trim to fit after.

Then place the acetate piece in front of the vellum, roll slightly and insert into jar. Add the shells in front of the picture and the tea light behind. Decorate the lid with the ribbon, lace and jute.

That's it.

You certainly could make this more intricate...rub ons on the glass, a tag, decorate the top of the lid, personalize it, use a larger jar...

Be sure to link up your project to Sentimental Sundays' Challenge...would love to see what you do with it!

Inky hugs,
Angi
